Help Set the Table for Life in 2026: Meet Caroel Selby

Meet the Rev. Caroel Selby

Critical repair helps heal the soul

The Rev. Caroel Selby may be the newest member at Habitat’s board table, but he comes from a nearly 40-year career of service within the juvenile justice system. And he also serves as First Antioch Baptist Church’s associate pastor.

Selby came to Habitat’s table after two pivotal events. The first was attending Habitat’s Rural Housing Workshop, where he learned more about land trusts and protecting family legacy. The second was seeing five members of his church get up at church one Sunday to offer their impromptu testimony on how Habitat’s critical repair program helped them or a family member.

Selby knows full well what a physical act of kindness can do for an individual. He heads up calls and visits to the “blue team” at his church — a group of congregants who range in ages and home situations.

“When elder folks have an outstanding repair need, it’s often because they have been making the choice between medication or getting something fixed, making the choice between buying food or getting the repair done. They just don’t have access to resources to maintain it on their own any longer, but helping them solve the issue [is encouraging] to them.”
