More than 75 volunteers and community members gathered Wed. Sept. 25 for Habitat for Humanity-Powhatan’s “Thankful Fore You” event in the ballroom at Independence Golf Club. Highlights included awarding the 2024 “Golden Hammer Award” for staff, board and/or committee service to Terry Sanders for her work as a former board president, co-chair of the gala committee for 10 years, and as a current member of the resource development committee.
“Whatever recognition could not adequately express my gratitude for HFH-P for expanding my world by my board and gala committee experiences,” Sanders said. “The growth of Habitat since I first joined the board has been amazing. And who would have predicted that our partnership with the Free Clinic would develop into one of the premier fundraising events in
Powhatan. It’s been an amazing adventure.”
In fiscal year, 5,698 hours of service were donated that in turn completed 57 critical home repairs for 69 individuals, kept more than 193,000 pounds of goods saved from going in the landfill through sales at the ReStore, and worked to provide three mortgages and three houses for county residents – two modular homes and one renovation.
